Dr. James Howe founded AgNovos in 2012 to spark a revolution in the management of bone health. A bone health scientist, researcher, and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Howe has been on the front lines of patient care for over 34 years. Dedicated to improving patient lives and health outcomes, he has invested the last 20 years in the development and refinement of the company’s first product. His vision continues to set the strategic direction for the company. A renowned orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Howe is the embodiment of the company’s core philosophical approach – to improve the lives of patients through rigorous application of the scientific process. During a teaching and medical career that spanned four decades, Dr. Howe held various academic and service appointments including professor, chairman and clinical leader of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Dr. Howe’s interest in the science of medicine resulted in his involvement in numerous research projects, authorship of more than 30 journal articles, and contribution to several books. His interest and drive to improve patient care also led to his developing expertise in a broad spectrum of medical specialties including osteoporosis, prosthetic design, surgical instrumentation, management of arthritis of the hip and knee, and arthroscopic surgery. Given his extensive experience and expertise, Dr. Howe has been a consultant and key opinion leader for many major medical device companies. Dr. Howe received his MD from the University of Vermont, completed an internship and one year of general surgery residency at the Medical College of Virginia, an orthopedic residency at the University of Vermont, and postdoctoral training at the Mayo Clinic. He is the recipient of several major awards including Kappa Delta Elizabeth Winston Lanier Award awarded by AAOS/ORS.
